NRV Marine Corps League Hosts Monthly Veteran Social Events

NRV Marine Corps League

The Marine Corps League New River Valley Detachment #1190 hosts a monthly social event where veterans can gather together, share good cheer and camaraderie, and build healthy relationships.

The event is held to support the Buddy Check 22 program which works to prevent veteran suicides by having veterans gather together or call each other on the 22nd of the month to check in and ensure that they are doing okay.

Although the Marine Corps League sponsors the monthly social, all veterans are invited and encouraged to attend. The ultimate goal is that, in a time of need, a veteran will know that there is someone who understands his/her struggle and will hopefully call someone for help.

Marine Corps League (MCL) Detachment #1190 has partnered with Macado’s in Radford to host the Buddy Check 22 program, and veterans can meet there every month from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please come out and join them to support this very worthy cause.

The Marine Corps League New River Valley Detachment #1190 was formed in December 2005 as a non-profit veterans organization for United States Marines and Corpsmen who served with U.S. Marines.

The mission of MCL Detachment #1190 is to voluntarily aid and render assistance to all Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and their widows and orphans and join together in fellowship in order to preserve the history and traditions and promote the interests of the United States Marine Corps in the New River Valley.

Detachment #1190 serves the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski, Giles, and Floyd and the City of Radford.

Although veteran suicide prevention is one of their core functions, these Marines also lead the Toys for Tots campaign in the New River Valley as part of the national program to gather and distribute toys to needy children at Christmas time.

Detachment #1190 also hosts two motorcycle rides as charity fundraisers, and members get their families together every summer for a picnic. The New River Valley Detachment also celebrates the Marine Corps Birthday every November with a formal dinner and traditional cake cutting ceremony.
